Enlarged Tonsil - Terrified- 2 Week Referral

I visited the GP today as one of my tonsils is enlarged, she's now put me on a 2 week pathway and after receiving the email which states 'Suspected Cancer', I'm terrified.

I'm 37, non smoker and a light drinker. I have a 5 year old son and can't face telling him that mummy is going to die. 

I just wanted to write this so I don't feel so alone. I really am so scared.

    Your reaction is completely normal. A mix of dread and blind panic because of the word cancer. At the moment it is just suspected it does not infer anything. The GP is doing their job properly by sending you to a specialist for tests to rule out or confirm. Most times it is ruled out even If confirmed most cancers are treatable and many are now curable so it is unlikely you will be telling your 5 year old you are going to die anytime soon and will probably be attending his wedding in the future. Take one day at a time and deal with one thing at a time. Try to look on the bright side - I know easier said than done.

    Hi scaredmum

    There is a lot of support available here especially from the nurses but also your peers. So come back whenever you need to. A place where your concerns are understood by those who know what you are going through.
