2 red flags came up at same time, 2 lots of parallel testing/diagnostics next week... Should I be worried

Last Tuesday morning I posted off my bowel screening kit, in the 0900 collection.

... And this Friday, I presented to GP with prostate issues., for which he prescribed antibiotics as a first line, and performed a DRE (is swollen)

GP made a forward appointment for next Friday PM for bloods (PSA) first, then repeat DRE (doing that first would affect the PSA apparently)

Yesterday (Saturday)I got a letter back from bowel cancel screening (3 day turnaround), with a SSP clinic appointment for Friday AM , and a guide on the colonoscopy procedure.

I'm getting really worried by the dual course in diagnostics, that I might have cancer.

  • Welcome to the forum Mat_9683 although I'm sorry about what has happened and for the worry this is causing.

Many of our members have been in a similar situation so they will definitely know what you're going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to address your concerns and support you whilst you wait.

We know how scary and anxious this time must be for you Mat_9683, but we are here for you and will have fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi, I sent mine off on Wednesday am,  and got a letter yesterday ( Monday ) dated Friday to say it was positive and I have an appointment with SSP for next week. So a very quick turn around.

The key thing is to remember that most colonoscopy results are negative and it’s usually polyps, piles etc. try not to worry and get the colonoscopy done.

    Good luck

  • I'm seeing a prostate ANP, and having an MRi on Tuesday (Symptomatic, PSA 15.8, no bacteria in urine cultures + some white cells in urine)

Starting prep on Wednesday and having colonoscopy Friday.

The slight delay has been that I was waiting on PSA + urine cultures  from GP on Thursday to definitely confirm prostate is formal second 2WW too... This case is multiple NHS trust involvement, one trust is regional CRC screening, the other trust is my GP referral for the prostate.

Friday was a whirlwind of both services booking me in, now they both have a clear picture, and can work around each other. (and so it's manageable for me getting between hospitals in two different trusts)

It's all just become "so real" now ..

Yesterday (Saturday) one post item was Plenvu, leaflets, paperwork, diet sheet, consent form etc...

And the other postal item was urology paperwork, leaflets, consent form etc.

  • Also a very minor part of the delay was repeat blood draw/labs for eGFR and creatine?? when I got my PSA results on Thursday morning., from the GP

Repeat labs came back Friday morning, my kidneys are perfectly fine... And that confirmation triggered all the inbound booking calls Friday mid morning.

All involved were being cautious as MRI contrast, then strong laxatives in the same week hammers your kidneys. Just double checking I'm fit for both procedures!

I'm impressed that when both "pins were pulled" with final lab results Friday AM, both services started the ball rolling in under an hour or so
