Endoscopy normal but 2 biopsies taken

Last Saturday, I had a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy done. The doctor said both procedures were ok and nothing to be concerned about from the look of both the upper and lower bowel however, he did take 2 biopsies during the endoscopy procedure

I was made fully aware that he'd be taking the biopsies from the nurse who had done my pre-checks.

I was having these tests done due to my stool FIT test coming back as positive and blood tests coming back with low blood count and anaemia, which had never been detected in previous blood tests 6 months ago and prior to that. These blood tests and stool tests were done 5 weeks ago!

I have had internal hemorrhoids for a long time (probably around 2 years) and sometimes bleed when going to the toilet, so I've put the blood test results down to that however i am starting to worry quite a bit now as i feel like I'm losing weight and feeling like i have little energy lately.  Is it possible for the biopsy results to indicate what is causing the low blood count?  Also, how long do the biopsy results usually take to come back ?

  • Hello iphammer,

I can understand you will be worried about the overcome after quite a few tests. It's difficult to know know for sure how long the results will take, so it's important to try and focus your mind on other things until you hear more. However, if you're worried about any of your symptoms do tell your doctor in the meantime if you haven't already. When youre waiting for results, it's natural to overthink or think the worst, but sometimes this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better.

We have some advice around coping with waiting for news on our website, which I hope will be useful to you.

    All the best,

  • Hello there.

Biopsies can take up to 4 to 6 weeks. Mine came back normal. I know how you feel. I went into a full mental meltdown. I hope your biopsies come back normal.

    Good luck.
