Biopsy result appointment delay

Hello everyone

Just wondering if anyone has any experience to draw on with BCC wait times following biopsy.

I had a biopsy taken from my nose 3 weeks ago. I have been having appointments since last year with different dermatologists debating what the patch of crusting/bleeding skin is. After unsuccessfully freezing it (it returned after a 6 week clear spell) they agreed to biopsy it. The dermatologist said they would discharge me if the biopsy was clear as treating it was potentially just cosmetic.

Fast forward to today and I received a letter by text with another dermatology appointment in November (4.5 months away). No result. So not discharged but not called in to discuss a result and no indication on the letter. Would they have you wait months after a positive biopsy? I know of all skin cancer a BCC is slow growing etc but the long wait and lack of clarity is going to drive me bonkers. Any thoughts anyone?! It’s 10pm on a Friday night so not even able to call tomorrow or speak to anyone! No results on the NHS app either.

  • Hi JJMe,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this is perhaps confusing and I'm sure the continued uncertainty is difficult and frustrating.

It's very hard to advise on what may be going on, or what the appointment is for. It may be worth giving your doctor a call this week to see if they can help.

Our nurses are also available if you'd like to speak to someone at any point. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope you find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
