Call back for ultrasound after mammogram

Hi, thank you for reading.

I recently attended a a screening, my first one due to family history I'm 45.

They did a physical examination which didn't flag any concern, they then said I would go through for a mammogram and I would receive my results in three weeks by post and see them again in a years time.

8 days later I recieved a call from the hospital clinic telling me that they have requested I come back in for an ultra sound over the next 7 days. I said ok and booked an appointment, I didn't ask any questions or why and wasn't told why. I don't think I asked, as was processing and just treated it like a hair or nail appointment change.

So they want an ultra sound, how concerned should I be or is this a very regular thing? Have they found something?

Thank you

Chloe

  • Chances are they have spotted an area they need to check on.

Often on a first mammogram things can be spotted that are normal for you.

  • Hi Chloe,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

As Clastegra said, more people are recalled after their first mammogram than any other. This is because there are no previous images to compare your first one to. There are a number of reasons for a recall - it could be as simple as the fact that your images are not clear enough. I was recalled after a mammogram, but fortunately nothing untoward was found.

It is impossible to say whether or not you should be concerned, as it could go either way, but it is a fairly regular occurrence. I do hope that all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
