Colonoscopy today

Hello folks

I cannot find my original thread but it was regarding a lump found in my lower right quadrant, blood test last week was fine and today I underwent a colonoscopy to rule out the blood fit test that was postive and try and determine the cause of the lump. For over two weeks I have not slept or ate like I used to with extreme anxiety about the colonoscopy today. The procedure went ahead and I had sedation so could see everything going on and ask questions. It was only mild discomfort when it went round the bend so to speak and the only finding was a 3mm polyp which they removed for analysis (not concerned was what the doc said). I have a CT scan next week to see if the lump is anything at all to worry about which the doctor said probably not as it was felt in the colon area. Relief is an understatement just the CT scan to go.

  • Hello Baggiesfan1968,

I'm relieved to hear your colonoscopy went smoothly. That must feel like a huge weight lifted! By the way, I found your original thread:  Lump that hurts when poked at

It’s completely understandable how the anxiety around that and the positive FIT from last week impacted your sleep and appetite. You’ve done brilliantly to push through and get the tests done under sedation.

A few more days of anticipation now before the CT. Remember to be kind to yourself over the weekend; you’ve done the hard part. We’ll all be here with our fingers crossed for that CT - please let us know how it goes.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Renata

The anxiety was off the scale I never felt so scared in my life but thankfully only a small polyp found under 3mm which from the gastroenterologist words were very small polyp so removed it. I know alot of people are nervous about a colonoscopy but can I share my experience? A clean bowell prep is so important because not only can your bowel be seen clearly it also helps with less discomfort from the procedure, less air needs to be put in and although slightly uncomfortable to start with the whole procedure was not uncomfortable at all. I think the skill of the gastroenterologist is important but also a high praise for the nurses who assist the colonoscopy. I had an ultrasound in February 2025 and over a year ago in A & E which could not find anything (still the same niggling ache). I will of course let you know the results
