Awaiting appointment for mother, possible throat cancer

Hi,

My mother went for a routine appointment for her ear when the consultant became concerned and called for another consultant in the room. He checked her throat and starting asking all the usual questions such as cancers in the family etc, he made an appointment for her to attend his clinic 2 days later. He looked at her throat with a camera and found a lump/mass. He then made an appointment for a CT Scan which happened 2 days later. We're currently awaiting an appointment following the CT Scan however this was done on a Friday and it's since been the weekend.

How long is the typical wait following a CT Scan and is there anything you can suggest to help me better support my mother during this wait? What are the likely next steps?

Thank you for any advise/help given

  • Hello Samdavi,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

It's difficult to answer your question, as there's no typical amount of time to wait for a CT scan. If you'd like more information on what to expect in the next appointment you can read about CT scans on our website. Waiting for an appointment can be a nerve-wracking time, so it can be helpful to focus on other things to maintain your wellbeing. We have some advice around how to cope with waiting for news, which I hope will be helpful.

Keep us updated and all the best to your mother,
