Endoscopy for abdominal pain threw up 10 gastric polyps. Biopsy results show 1 larger one benign and LGD on one that was bleeding.
Very long term PPI user and no H Pylori. Latest thinking is that the Pantoprazole is the culprit. Faecal elastase test results still outstanding. Have a CT and colonoscopy coming up as the next stage of the investigation.
Trying to get my head around the consulltants evaluation of urgency
He has explained that the progression between LGD to HGD takes a while and that he had visually evaluated the other polyps. By his own admission though he is surprised at this combo. The plan is to go back in to remove the LGD polyp and potentially take out the rest.So potentially a result. However this can take up to 8 weeks to arrange.
My confusion is if the assessment on the LGD is on a timeline how can it be determined how long it has been at the LGD stage. Surely it is plausible that it could be about to progress to a HGD status. And then surely the evidence of one precancerous polyp increases the chance of an issue in the remaining 8, never mind hidden dysplasia. Furthermore it's also plausible that other polyps could have either be at HGD or cancer stage, the risk must be greater after finding 1 with LGD.
Clearly confidence in my medical advice is constructive and there's a fine line between a layperson advocating for themselves and being woefully off base and second guessing the professionals. I am struggling to get my head round why this isn't fast tracked given the status of the 8 is completely unknown.
Feel a little churlish raising this on a forum where folk are alot worse off than I currently seem to be and I obviously can raise this with my consultant it's just cathartic to lay this out. ️
