25cm Ovarian cyst and dealing with nhs

In April I attended A&E because I had really bad period bleeding. I was booked for an ultrasound and they found a 25cm cyst on my ovary. I was obviously alarmed by this as the ultrasound showed a massive dark mass in my uterus. I was told I was going for an urgent MRI which I ended up having to chase myself. Afterwards my case was suppose to be sent to the MDT the following week but it wasn’t. The problem is i started to get a-lot of pain and after several phone calls and having to chase things myself it turns out my case wasn’t discussed at that MDT and won’t be until the next one on June 17th.

I met with my consultant who told me that they will most likely have to remove my ovary but no surgical plan will be confirmed until after this date. I was sent for my CA125 blood test and I am awaiting results although I have been told they do not think I have cancer. This whole situation has been stressful and I have no idea what to expect. I’m told I’m an urgent case but I have no idea how long to expect to wait for surgery afterwards or even if it will a high priority. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • Hi Trace1991 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about the cyst that was found on your ovary and that you've had to chase everything up to find out what's going on.

As you say, this must be very stressful but I hope it helps to know that many of our members have found themselves in very similar situations, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

In the meantime, I hope the results of your ca125 test bring good news when they come through and that you won't have to wait too long after the MDT meeting on the 17th to find out what happens next.

Our thoughts are with your Trace1991 and we hope everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
