Pain in left side under rib

I have been experiencing pain under my left rib that goes into back for about 6 weeks now I was recently diagnosed withe coeliacs disease in Jan so have also been on a gluten free diet since then. I have been to a & e 3 times twice was told gastroenteritus and last time I was sent for a ct as suspected kidney stones but that came back negative. My amalyase levels on bloods were slightly raised but nothing of concern and was also told by my gp when they done the ct scan they also checked my bowels lung bases pancreas liver and spleen and all seemed normal.

I am so worried about pancreatic cancer as my stools have not been right for months but have always put that down to the coeliacs but this pain will not go away and sometimes goes right across my back I always feel full have lost my appetite and always so tired. I have a gastro appointment in July and gp says i need to just wait until then. Do I wait do I go back to A&E as I feel so ill having to take co codomal just to ease the pain now and getting so down.

  • Did they check your gall bladder as it sounds like it may be that? I had pain like yours & it turned out to be an infected gall bladder. They removed it & then I later had a stone stuck in my bile duct. Whilst removing it the procedure caused pancreatitis. I hazard a guess that the pain from pancreatic cancer is similar to that of pancreatitis and believe me, it's totally debilitating (can't walk, sit, lie down - do anything and pain killers don't touch the pain). I thought gall bladder pain was bad but this was multiplied and only morphine helped.

I suggest you contact the hospital and tell them you are happy to be seen earlier if someone cancels their gastro appointment - that may be the only way you get seen earlier. Meanwhile, if your symptoms get worse and your pain is debilitating, go back to A&E.
