Flu symptoms after very painful colonoscopy

Good evening,

thank you in advance to anyone who reads this and offers any advice.
I had my first colonoscopy yesterday, well failed one, it had to be stopped very soon in due to excessive looping and excruciating pain. They determined I’m not suitable for a colonoscopy and the topic will go back to my consultant to make a decision on what’s next. I was having a colonoscopy due to faecal protectin reading of 600 and irratic bowel movements. I had sedation and gas and air during procedure but it did nothing to help pain.

All today I have felt horrendous, I feel completely wiped out. I feel like I have got the flu, hot and cold shivers, tender tummy, can’t eat much at all, banging headache, just feeling really wiped out and emotionally not myself either. I’m worrying now that I may have sepsis or some kind of complication, has anyone else experienced these side effects after and are they normal?

thank you

  • Hi dizzypanda01 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear your colonoscopy had to be aborted and that you haven't been feeling well since.

We have a lot of members within our community who have had a colonoscopy so hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but if you're worried or your symptoms do not improve then don't hesitate to get in touch with the colonoscopy department that carried out your procedure or the NHS on 111 for further information and advice.

We also have a team of cancer nurses you can talk to about this on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and address your concerns.

We're thinking of you dizzypanda01 and hope you start feeling better soon.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
