Call back to breast clinic

Hi everyone,

today I went to the breast clinic following a 2ww because I found a suspicious lump. I had an ultrasound and it was determined to be benign but  I then saw a consultant who has a good feel of both breasts and she was concerned about how much thickening I had on the breast with the lump compared to the other breast. She said they feel vastly different so has asked me to go back in 4 weeks to see if anything has changed and I’ll also have a biopsy. I’m so upset mostly because I’ll spend the next 4 weeks worrying why didn’t she just do the biopsy then and there? I thought it all happened at once? I’m really concerned and can’t bare the thought of another 4 week wait. Is there anything I can do?

many thanks

  • Hi Clarabelle,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Protocols vary from one clinic to another. I understand that this extra waiting time is frustrating, but it sounds as if this is not considered to be too urgent, when your ultrasound seems benign. You are fortunate that your consultant has noticed the difference between both breasts and is bringing you back to check it out.

I am not a doctor, but I suspect that your consultant may be leaving you for 4 weeks, to see if there is any change with your menstrual cycle, as can happen. If this is the case, there will be nothing that you can do to expedite matters. I appreciate how worrying a wait like this is, but there are times when we just have to be patient. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward will be found as a result of your biopsy. Just a note of warning that if you have a biopsy at your next visit, it can take from 1-2 weeks to get the results of this.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine, Thankyou so much for your reply it means a lot, last night I felt wet and looked and there was bloody discharge coming from my nipple of the affected breast, I’m not sure if I should call them and let them know or wonder if it’s from being prodded and poked? I just feel like a drama queen haha.

    Thankyou again for your reply

  • Hi Clarabelle,

Keep an eye on your breast over the next few days and see if it settles. If not, it might be worth another phone call.

    Kind regards,
