Breast Changes-Waiting for Breast Clinic

Hi All,

in the past couple of weeks, I’ve noticed my left breast increase in size (mostly to the outer bottom part, looks like someone’s blown up a balloon in it) it’s always been the bigger of the two, but not overly noticeable other than to me.

now, it’s noticeable through clothing, uncomfortable in my bra and just doesn’t feel right, feels hard to the touch, heavy. Also noticed some swelling in the part just below my armpit just before the breast starts, compared to the other side it’s definitely swollen, again it’s come on suddenly.

ive also got a small area of a dimple on the top part of the breast, along with a really pronounced couple of veins leading down to my nipple. There’s a tiny hint of a lump to the upper outer part but not solid or particularly noticeable.

got a little pain, but not horrendous, just a constant dull ish ache from armpit to breast and sometimes it’s a bit more shooting in the breast.

i had a partial hysterectomy 6 years ago removing my womb due to Adenomyosis so not had a period in 6 years and never had any PMS/PMT symptoms.
not menopausal in any way peri or otherwise and other than listed above not had any symptoms.

have some family history of cancer on both sides, Maternal and Paternal Grandmothers had Breast Cancer (though not sure to what extent) Maternal Grandfather had lung cancer and paternal uncle had cancer.

im trying so so hard to stay calm and rational, but I am also so worried and on edge. Saw the GP who did a very brief exam of my breasts and has referred me to the breast clinic who are seeing me on the 17th unless something sooner comes up. I just want to feel calmer but just can’t shake this horrible feeling.

any advice or support would be great

  • Hi Jenny and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear about the changes you've noticed in your breast, and for the anxious wait you now have to be seen at the breast clinic.

So many of our members know how challenging and scary this time can be so hopefully some of them will stop by when they can to offer their support and advice.

I hope some of these tips we have on how to cope with waiting for news will help you to remain calm, but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to support you whilst you wait.

We're here for you Jenny and wishing you all the best with your appointment on the 17th. We hope it goes well and that you'll be walking out with good news.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
