Possible sarcoma?

Hi,

I noticed a lump on the inner crease of my arm a few weeks ago, I’d been calling up the drs trying to get an appointment but had no luck. Last night I had a dream that I actually had it checked and out was told it was cancer… really weird and obviously just a dream, right? Anyway, when I woke up I called the drs again and they had me in 2 hours later, they took some bloods and have referred me urgently for an ultrasound.

I read on the referral form that the reasoning for the urgent referral was ‘new growing lump, sarcoma?’ so now I’m a bit freaked out.

Has anyone had anything similar? And how long does an urgent referral usually take? I imagine my bloods would show concern if a sarcoma is the case? I don’t really get it haha.

Thanks!

  • Hello Kazzamae

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a lump. You've done exactly the right thing in seeing your GP and it's good to know that they have requested some initial investigations.

Try not to worry too much about the details on the ultrasound referral form. There are guidelines that doctors have to follow when referring patients for tests and the majority of patients don't go on to be diagnosed with cancer. Hopefully, the fact that your referral has been sent as an urgent request will mean that you won't have to wait too long for your ultrasound. You can always give the hospital a call to see how long the urgent ultrasound waiting list currently is as that you have an idea about when you may be seen.

In the meantime, if it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
