Worried Dad has leukaemia

I’m not sure why I’m posting this really, I guess I just need somewhere to voice my worries and concerns. My dad had a full blood count done at the doctors last Wednesday. He received a call yesterday saying the doctor needed to speak to him as has a telephone call next Monday.

He’s been waking up multiple times with night sweats and then throughout the day he’s freezing, he’s tired all the time and he has large purple bruises (although this has been going on for a while and the GP thought it was because of skin thinning due to steroid cream use), he’s also itchy all the time. He’s only 60 and he’s my only family and his symptoms are concerning and I’m terrified he’s got leukaemia. He’s so avoidant with health things- he won’t log onto the nhs app to view his results and says he’ll try to answer the doctors call on Monday but he’s at work so might not. I know he’s an adult and I can’t force him but his symptoms are so worrying

  • Hello Bluebellsx

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has had some health concerns recently and that you're feeling so concerned about what may be causing his symptoms. We know that for many people, this period of waiting for results and news can be really difficult, and it's understandable that you're worried about your Dad.

Hopefully when your Dad's doctor speaks with him on Monday, he will be able to give you both some answers and reassurance about your Dad's health and what the next steps are.

In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. y

Do let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes to you both,
