How long does a lung biopsy take?

Hi there Peeps,

Just wondering how long it typically takes to get the results back after a lung biopsy. The uncertainty is awful, better to be digesting news or taking action. I have read from other posts that a biopsy can often take 10-15 days and was wondering what others on here have experienced. Thanks in advance for any info ...

  • Hello Britething

I know that many people here will understand the difficulties that come with waiting for biopsy results. It's natural to be experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions.

It's really difficult to say when you may hear some news but I don't think it's unreasonable to get in touch with your specialist nurse (if you've been given one) or the Consultant's secretary for an update if you've not heard within 2 weeks. There are a number of factors that can influence waiting times but if the specialists are able to tell you roughly when you may have an update that may help with the waiting.

If it would help to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for this advice. I know time is a concept and often somewhat elastic, but waiting is the worst.
