Are lymph nodes normal in breast?

Hi

i don’t often check my breasts to my shame, but I swiped across my breast a few nights ago & can feel a wee pea size lump. When I felt around both my breasts I can definitely feel lots of lumps - I’m assuming they’re lymph nodes to the outer aspects of both breasts - but are these normal to feel? I cannot remember feeling them before & I really don’t want to look silly by turning up to my GP with absolutely normal lumps - additionally I’m 47 so wondering is this a part of perimenopause?

kindly xx

  • Hi PD7735,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Our lymph nodes are all around our body. The lymphatic system is like the circulatory system in that way. Some people have naturally lumpy breasts. You will not appear silly to consult your GP on this matter. It is always best to be safe and not sorry that we ignored any changes.

Not all lumps are cancerous - many turn out to be benign cysts, fibroadenomas, etc. It is a fact that only 20% of those referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis. It is always worth checking your breasts regularly, as this makes it easier to spot any changes. Please phone your GP tomorrow and make an appointment. I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
