Sarcoma in hip?

Hello,

im 55 and been suffering hip problems for a couple of years - my right hip pain recently gradually worsened and I’ve developed limited range of movement- at the same time I noticed a growing lump about 5 cm long  on my thigh- near of hip. My doctor has put me on 2w referral to sarcoma clinic and I’m terrified - can anyone advise similar experiences ?

  • Hi Joyinlife1,

I am so sorry to hear you have had these hip issues for a while now and it can be terrifying to be put on a 2w referral and it is normal to be anxious and to be worried about sarcoma. It is worth bearing in mind though that having an urgent referral doesn't necessarily mean cancer will be found and you can read more on this on our page on urgent suspected cancer referrals. It's good that they are carrying out all these tests though and that hopefully you won't need to wait too long to be seen. As you're experiencing limited range of movement and that growing lump on your thigh, it is important to get checked out properly and I hope that you get a definite diagnosis soon.

There may be other members of our community who have had similar experiences and who were previously referred for something similar and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you I hope it all turns out to be nothing too concerning,

    Best wishes,

  • I had a biopsy on suspected. Sarcoma in thigh a week last Tuesday. The results are due in 2/3 weeks . The waiting is not easy but I am trying to be patient and remain open to any future treatment. I found the best thing I could do in the meantime is find out all I could about what I can expect  if my results are positive. My lump was found in an X-ray of my pelvis before Xmas. I am 81 and had major surgery for  bowel cancer in 2023.

Keep hoping for the best and all good wishes.
