Bleeding after menopause

Hi, I am 50 and had my last period 18 months. 2 weeks ago I started experiencing period symptoms, sore breasts, abdominal pain and then had bleeding for 5 days, it then stopped and nothing since. I’ve googled it and scared myself. I’m about to call the doctors now but admit I have been putting it off. I’ve also been experiencing symptoms of needing to pee frequently and bowel movements have been all over the place, constipated one day then on the loose side the next day and so on.
I’m going to stop putting it off and will call the doctors after this message but can’t stop worrying. Had abnormal cells years ago when I was in my twenties and had to have a procedure to burn them away, something that I found really painful so I have a fear of having to have anything like that again. I do however have regular smears and my last one was only a few months ago and came back normal. I also got selected to have the lovely poo sample tested and posted. That was also normal. I think I will be fine and it’s nothing to worry about however fear is niggling at the back of my mind. Anyone else had similar issues?

  • Hi Faith, had to do a urine and stool sample, stool sample came back fine and urine sample came back that I had a water infection so was given antibiotics. I was alosing referrer for an urgent ultrasound probe but still not had the appointment through, I’ve chased it and told should hear soon. In the meantime also been for a blood test yesterday so waiting on that.
I know what you mean, I’m nervous but I guess the positives are that they are being thorough. Hope you are ok and try not to worry too much, waiting game is horrible though. Xx

    1. I have had my ultra sound internal probe Tuesday evening and results have come back abnormal, I have an appointment with the doctor on Monday so now I’m really stressing.
  • Hi Sky

Sorry for my delayed response I’m so sorry that the ultrasound came back with abnormal results. Awful for you the anxiety and feeling in total limbo until you know what’s going on! Honestly no one else can relate unless they have been in this position not that I wish it on anyone. I only hope that it’s something benign thinking of you and praying for the best possible outcome sending supportive hugs xxx

  • Thanks Faith, I feel silly for stressing when maybe it’s nothing to worry about, I mean abnormal could be such a wide range of things but I can’t help it, I will have to try and put it to the back of my mind so I’m not stressing all weekend. Thanks for your reply xxx

  • Hi Sky309 I completely relate I literally can’t stop stressing either. It’s been 7 weeks of worry so far and now awaiting scan results from urologist. If nothing found there then back to gynaecologist for further tests. Only hope you can get your tests interpreted in laymen’s terms by your GP on Monday. I know what a worrying time this is but hopefully you will get some answers soon sending positive vibes xx

  • Thanks Faithhope, hope you get your scan results soon, it’s the waiting that’s the worst, I’m so impatient. If they say no further action Monday then I’m still going to be worried as I’m still peeing constantly and have backache and stomach ache so somthing is causing it. I have come on here to let off steam as can’t really speak to the hubby about it. His mum died last year from pancreatic cancer, within 3 weeks of her diagnosis, he’s not properly grieved and doesn’t talk about it. He is worried about these tests more than me so I keep a positive vibe around him but secretly sit here googling. I just want to get to the bottom of the symptoms and some answers.

    1. Hi. Sounds like a good result. I'm back on the 2 week pathway again having urgent scan hopefully next week. Period pains 24/7 the odd blood loss, but the pains worse than lastcyear. I already know I have a benign tumour on my right ovary & several womb lesions, with a thickening on one side of womb. I was on the watch & wait list, but got lost in the system. Then my hubby was diagnosed in March with cancer, so I put me on the back burner. But since May my pain level as heightened & I have a good pain threshold. So I now need to find out whats going or changed. Some yesr 2025 as been for us!!
    2. I hope you're ok & all your results are ok. Take care & keep in touch xx
  • Oh I’m so sorry to hear that, what a horrible year for you both, what a stressful time. I will hopefully find out more at my appointment Monday, I look so bloated and have been experiencing back and stomach pain so I’m hoping I can at least get some answers. I hope all goes well with you both and please keep me updated. Sending you hugs.

  • Yep its been an awful year. The period pain into my legs back pelvic pain & my lower belly bloated. Very uncomfy now I must admit. Update us Monday about your results & hope alls ok. Big hugs & take care xx
