Bleeding after menopause

Hi, I am 50 and had my last period 18 months. 2 weeks ago I started experiencing period symptoms, sore breasts, abdominal pain and then had bleeding for 5 days, it then stopped and nothing since. I’ve googled it and scared myself. I’m about to call the doctors now but admit I have been putting it off. I’ve also been experiencing symptoms of needing to pee frequently and bowel movements have been all over the place, constipated one day then on the loose side the next day and so on.
I’m going to stop putting it off and will call the doctors after this message but can’t stop worrying. Had abnormal cells years ago when I was in my twenties and had to have a procedure to burn them away, something that I found really painful so I have a fear of having to have anything like that again. I do however have regular smears and my last one was only a few months ago and came back normal. I also got selected to have the lovely poo sample tested and posted. That was also normal. I think I will be fine and it’s nothing to worry about however fear is niggling at the back of my mind. Anyone else had similar issues?

  • Hi. I was on a 2 week gynae cancer pathway laat year. I have several lesions on my womb & a benign tumour on my right ovary, my CA 125 test was normal ( no ovarian cancer). A week ago symptoms returned pain unbearable & losing brown blood. Yesterday my GP put me back on the 2 week cancer gynae pathway again.

Recently I've been constipated & peeing loads. Its just best to get it checked. If you have a niggly gut feeling, go with your instincts. Its proberly nothing but until you're checked you wont feel reassured.

    I wish you well x

  • Thanks Minnie, I have just rang the doctors and typically all the appointments for today have gone so they have booked me in for this coming Monday but at least I have made the appointment. Hope you are ok too and you are right, best to go with gut.

  • I did mine over the phone. I'm lucky with my GP. But if u ring back & explain ur symptoms & say u want an urgent call appointment if not face to face.  Maybe they can fit u in before Monday. Like I said I'm lucky with my GP, I email her as well via the surgery. Each each surgery as an email address, so do that.

Whatever you decide to do try to stay calm, easier said I know.

And keep in touch & let me know how you get on xx

  • Thanks Minnie, I will try. I did explain the symptoms over the phone to the receptionist and that it says online that any bleeding after menopause needs to be treated urgently and I just got the standard “like I said we have no appointments for today, best I can do is Monday”. I will see if they have any telephone appointments.

  • Tried, no telephone appointments available for today, apparently I can try and call them at 8:00am tomorrow to try and get one which is impossible as I will be on the park and ride bus heading to work.

  • Not good enough! Ring & ask for the practice manager as u wish to make a complaint & also ask for their email address & mention you'll cc in ur local MP.

That normally works! I've done all of this for other people & get so annoyed with the robotic receptionist! So plz do that x

  • I don’t want to get on the wrong side of the receptionists incase I need their help in future however I have decided to go into work earlier tomorrow so I can go into a side room and make the call at 8am tomorrow to try and get a phone appointment as I don’t want to be worrying about it over the weekend. Then at least I can get to speak to the doctor tomorrow (hopefully). Will keep you updated. Thank you for your help. X

  • Dont worry about receptionists, its your right to speak to the practice manager.

But you do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Keep me updated & take care xx

  • Thanks Minnie, will do xx
