I'm 53 and visited my G.P with a lump in the left hand side of my neck, which I can also feel during swallowing. He referred me to the ENT clinic and I saw the hospital DR two days ago. At my appointment the hospital DR palpated the lump, and seemed very nonchalant about it, which i took to be a good sign, and he proceeded to pop a camera through my nasal passage to investigate further. He told me 'it wasn't really a lump' and that I probably was suffering from silent reflux and handed me a leaflet on it. I felt quite gaslit by him at this point, but let it go, as he's referred me for an ultrasound. What I'm confused about, is when is a lump not a lump? Both my G.P. and i have felt this lump and I am 100% certain that the sensation whilst swallowing in my throat, is due to this lump. I've never had any lymph node swelling throughout my life, apart from during the usual childhood illnesses, and was made to feel like I was imagining it! has anyone else experienced this? It's really unfair as I've been really nervous about the whole thing for weeks, as my father passed away from thoat cancer. My G.P was sure it was a cervical lymph node and I'm sure would not have referred me if it was not a red flag.
