Breast biopsy and follow up apt

Hello, wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I had a biopsy on 7th May on a fibroadenoma I’ve had for quite some time, it wasn’t the reason I attended the breast clinic but they advised they would biopsy for reassurance purposes as I am over 30 now, radiologist said nothing concerning was showing on ultrasound. I was told 2-4 weeks for results, would be a phone call to either give results or to book follow up. On 16th May I got a notification in the evening that a follow up apt had been booked for 29th. I have had no written or verbal confirmation of this and my GP says they have not received any results. Breast clinic are not getting back to me although one lady said that she was surprised I would have been made an apt as results take 2-4 weeks so they would have not been back by 16th which is when the notification came through. I’m confused with having no verbal or written follow up and wonder if it has been provisionally booked in. Also of course worried with the idea of needing to go back in. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Thank you in advance :)

  • Hello Barony92

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently attended breast clinic and that you're now waiting for results. We know that for many people this period of uncertainty can be difficult and with the lack of clear communication about why this appointment has been booked it's understandable that you're feeling more worried.

Many clinics seem to book provisional follow up appointments under the assumption that results will be back before that date. Try not to read too much into the fact that tyou've been sent an appointment for a face to face follow up. We know from the many posts we see here in the Cancer Chat community that a face to face appointment doesn't always mean bad news.

Hopefully when you go for your appointment next week the team will be able to give you some reassurance. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Thanks for replying. I was able to speak to someone who advised me the consultant said they don’t want me to worry, they have not found anything concerning and the apt is to just discuss removing it. I feel better but a little worried as to why they might want to as I didn’t think they usually did? But I will wait and see what they say Thursday :)
