Pelvic Ultra sound

Hi everyone,

On Friday i had a pelvic ultra sound. Was told nothing obvious was showing and to call my doctor Monday for my results. She did say my womb lining looked normal. I was due to have a vaginal ultra sound but because of the bleeding i didnt feel comfortable doing that. I have been bleeding for more than 2 months now with pain. Was told that i would need a MRI scan because i didnt want a internal after they did the scan.

Is this normal. Im just thinking if there was nothing obvious on the scan why would i need a MRI. Im just over thinking i know but was just wondering if anyone else has been through the same. Im grateful that i will get a MRi just worrying a lot.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health problems recently. It's good to hear that you've already seen your doctor and that investigations have been started.

Typically an internal ultrasound will give additional information to the clinicians that an abdominal ultrasound can't pick up. As you weren't able to have an internal ultrasound, it's likely that this is why an MRI has been requested. It doesn't automatically mean that anything of concern was seen on the abdominal ultrasound, just that the specialists want to make sure they have as full and clear a picture of what is going on for you as possible.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment and the results will bring some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
