Good afternoon.
I am not sure what I want from this post . I know you cannot diagnose but I have noone I can talk to in real life and someone may have some reassurance/experience.
I 5 and a half weeks ago I had a referral to.ENT due to a concern I had about my hearing (everything is loud enough but not always clear). The hearing test was fine but the Dr pointed out that one of my tonsils was significantly larger than the other. He has refereed me for an MRi which is this Friday. I had not noticed that it was enlarged so I don't know how long it has been but I had a dentist appointment just before Xmas and I wouod like to think they would.have pointed it out. I had a look when I got home and it covers at least a third of the back of my mouth. It is hard and ai can put my finger behind it with no pain or discomfort.
Since then I have googled (I know! ) and tonsil cancer keeps popping up. I am terrified.
Now I keep.going back and thinking that for among time I have been exhausted (I put it down to the fact that I am a primary teacher, and single mum of teenagers). I often have a strange tightness in my face/ear that I had put down to teeth troubles (I have had significant work done on my teeth in the last 12 months following years of neglect so lots of I factions etc). Plus the ear concern. When I touch my throat undr my chin it is definitely firmer on the side with the swolen tonsil.
However, there is no pain, no sore throat at all. I have a naturally quite croaky voice due to its constant use at work so I don't know if this has changed. There is no "lump" visible.on the outside-although as I said when I put a little pressure on my throat the left side feels different. I can swallow fine.
I am 44 so underwhelming average age for tonsil cancer, I rarely drink.alcohol and I have never smoked or vaped (although my husband does vape). I am significantly overweight though. Some sites mention HPV and I did have the vaccination as a teen. I am unsure if that is relevant.
I am terrified something sinister is going on and that all the symptoms I put down to other things were actually cancer spreading. We are due on holiday at the end of July that we have scrimped and saved to.pay for but we had not sorted out insurance so would lose our money if we don't go. I have finally got a permanent contract at work after a series of 1 yr contracts but have not signed the paperwork as it won't be processed u till closer to my current contract ending. The worst case scenario os going round and round in my head. We wouod not manage on just my husbands wage.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
