Breast biopsy - nhs app showing that I will get the reports from the ultrasounds and biopsy histology report before my follow up appointment.

Good afternoon, this may be a long one.

It all started back in October 2024 I started feeling unwell and thought it may of just been a sickness bug / cold and would pass soon as usual ( I rarely get unwell but when I do it goes within a couple of days ). This sickness feeling continued some days worse than others , I kept getting colds / and flu like issues that have continued since and so has the feeling of constant fatigue which doesn't go no matter what I do.

Previous to this I noticed some changes in my right breast which included change in shape and feeling heavier/ bigger and rasied vein but didn't pay much attention to this , then I noticed other changes on my left breast which included constant itchiness in the same spot and then a dry patch that wouldn't go appeared on the areola on the left breast on a different part.  I then thought I could feel something but was unsure so again I left it to see if any of these changes would go during this time I would regularly feel my breasts I then noticed what I thought may be a lump in my right breast but left it to see if it went or not. As time went on I could continue feeling this and some other lumps so decided in the beginning of April to go to the gp ,the nurse then took all information and felt my breasts sitting up. She said she could feel one lump in the left breast and would reffer to local hospital breast clinic as urgent.

I then had my appointment at the hospital breast clinic , the consultant I saw did not even feel my breasts properly and lightly dusted over them when laying down and said she couldn't feel anything but would send for an ultrasound.

The ultrasound doctor went over my right breast and said there are alot of cysts in there he also seemed a bit shocked I don't know how many as I didn't ask, he then went over my left breast and the area of where I said has been constantly itchy and the nurse at the gp felt one lump , he continuously went over this  area took some pictures , went over my left underarm and back over the same area of breast and he spent quite some time doing this.

He said he could see 2 two areas that concerned him they were near eachother , I didn't see the screen or ask any questions ( on hindsight I wish I did) but anyway he was concerned so wanted a biopsy done there and then he took around 5 or 6 samples whilst doing the biopsy.

I then left a nurse said I should know within a week or so, an appointment has been booked for the end of this month which is weeks later.

I have had notifications in the nhs app/ patients know best and my reports from the ultrasounds and the histology report will be avalible for me to see before my actual appointment.

The histology report said it came through 4 days after the biopsy was taken is it possible for the results to be this quick ?

It also looks like from the app the mdt meeting only took place last week.

I rand the hospital a couple of weeks ago when I noticed that it was saying I'd be able to see all reports and results before my actual appointment but the clinic do not answer the phone and have not responded to my voicemail messages regarding this.

Has anyone else had this before because surely it isn't best practice for people to be able to see the results before thier appointment to discuss results.

Even the website says usually appointment will be given for a return one week after, aside from going into the hospital clinic in myself as they aren't answering the phone or getting back to me does anyone have any idea of what I can do ?

Thanks and sorry for the essay , I'm also under a london nhs network for this so I thought things would be alot better then they seem to be.

  • Hi Natz2345 I'm sorry to hear that this is causing you so much anxiety. I'm afraid I can't comment on the procedure for receiving results via the app but it might be with giving our cancer nurses a quick ring as hopefully they will be able to talk this through with you and answer some of your questions. You can call them free, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm on 0808 800 4040.  I would also suggest getting in touch with your local PALS office, they can help reassure you and resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS.

I hope you get your appointment soon

    Kind regards

  • Hi , Thank you for your response Sarah.

I still haven't heard from them the appointment that was booked weeks ago is next week , I am able to see the reports from the breast ultrasound now and the nhs app is saying I'll be able to see the biopsy histology results before the appointment too.

Just wondered if anyone else has ever had this too.

    Thanks again.
