Urgent referral for colonoscopy

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Iron Deficiency Anaemia and mild Splenomegaly. I have had three weeks of constant blood tests, urine test and a stool sample. Blood tests have come back abnormal, Urine test found blood so doctor diagnosed a UTI and this morning my stool sample results came back as blood in my stool so I have been urgently referred for a colonoscopy at the hospital. I am really panicking because i have stomach pain, back ache, dizziness, really bad headaches etc.

I also have a 7 year old daughter so I am petrified if they find i have cancer

  • I'm really sorry to hear about your symptoms Nicola and for the worry this situation is causing.

This must be a very stressful time, especially with your daughter at the forefront of your mind, but if you can try not to panic or assume the worst until you know more. Much easier said than done, I know, but hopefully your colonoscopy results will show what's going on, and that it isn't anything sinister.

We have quite a lot of members who have been in a similar position, so you are not alone Nicola, and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

If it would help to talk things through with someone then our cancer nurses are just a phone call away. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and address your concerns.

We're  thinking of you Nicola and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
