Found a bruise that isn't going. Now I have a 2 week referral, so scared

I found a bruise which isn't going and have an appointment at the hospital in 12 days. How many of you had a biopsy at that initial appointment as I believe that they can do a lot of harm as can mammograms. I want to make decisions on treatment in advance and I daren't google

  • Hello Mighty-Hamburg

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns which have resulted in you being referred to the hospital for a specialist opinion. It's understandable that you have some questions and concerns about what may happen.

You don't mention where the bruise is or which specialist you've been referred to, but as you've mentioned mammograms, I'm wondering if you are waiting to attend the breast clinic.

Typically, at a breast clinic appointment, patients are examined by a specialist and then, depending on that exam and the history, an ultrasound, mammogram and/or a biopsy may be requested during the appointment. But it's important to remember that this is not the case for every patient and if you feel uncomfortable about any investigations that are recommended, then do talk with the team about your concerns.

If you think it may be useful to talk things through with one of our nurses before your appointment, then you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can ahead of your appointment. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully the specialists will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
