  • Hi Jadeskitt,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am not a doctor, but, as far as I understand - an ultrasound shows the size, shape, and structure of the uterus. If the ultrasound pictures show that your uterus is not a normal shape, or size, or has an uneven texture, it is described as a heterogeneous uterus.

The myometrium is the middle muscular layer of the uterus. A heterogeneous uterus is not a diagnosis in itself, but it is an indication that there might be an underlying condition affecting your uterus, for example fibroids, but there can be a number of different causes. Any further treatment will depend upon the underlying cause. Your care team may choose to do a more detailed scan using an MRI to determine the cause.

Please, never be afraid to ask questions, if you don't understand what you are being told. It is all too easy for us to be flummoxed by medical jargon. I hope that you get more answers soon and that it turns out to be nothing too serious.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
