Swollen lymph nodes in neck

Hi,

A few weeks ago I noticed a swollen lymph node on the back of my neck on my hairline. A few days later I noticed another one appeared on the side of my neck too on the same side. I went to the GP who didn't seem too concerned but referred me for a ultrasound and bloods. My bloods came back today my full count was normal and so was my liver function test but they have found ebv ebna igg antibody. The receptionist said the GP is waiting for results of the ultrasound then will book me in for a review but wasn't very helpful in what this antibody actually was or meant. Has anyone had this before. I feel sick with worry now and trying not to Google.

Thanks

  • Hi Sophie,

You did the right thing in going to the GP after you noticed these swollen lymph nodes on the back and on the side of your neck. It's good that they were thorough and referred you for an ultrasound and bloods. I am not sure myself what this antibody means and it is normal to be worried when something is flagged and you don't really understand what it all means and it sounds like the receptionist didn't have the medical expertise to tell you more but hopefully you will get to talk to someone soon once the GP has reviewed your results from the ultrasound.

I hope that you will hear from someone here who has had this before and that they will tell you more about their own experience. It's hard sometimes to resist the temptation to Google - we have all succumbed to it! - but you are right to try not to look things up on Google as this will make you worry unnecessarily without giving you any definite answers. While you are waiting, have a look at our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing to worry about.
