So worried

Hello, please bear with me i am new to all of this.

I went to the doctors about a month ago with moderate pain in my left ear, I thought it may be an ear infection. The doctor examined and said its likely to be viral because she couldn't see anything that looks infected, and no fever. She then looked in my right ear, and looked confused, she said there was a small growth inside and a lesion, so that combined with high blood pressure she asked me to come back 2 weeks later. At this point, the right ear had no pain so I was left feeling confused.

Just before the ear pain started, I noticed a lump at the base of my skull, but I assumed it was just swollen nodes and would go away. It was still there when I was due for my next appointment at the GP which was actually 3 weeks later instead of 2. So I mentioned it to the doctor, she looked at my ear again and the growth was still there, I was also feeling pain behind my ear and down my neck, she felt the lump on my head and said I would need to see ENT clinic to see what's going on

I then received a pdf straight after my appt saying urgent referral for suspected head/neck cancer, which was a shock as that's not what the doctor said to me during my appointment. I got a call yesterday with my appointment date for the 9th may, but since going to the doctors I have noticed another lump on the side of my neck, and some other worrying symptoms. A very very dark purple (almost black) bruise has just appeared out of nowhere near my shoulder, I'm suffering headaches and now I am feeling chesty too.

What should I do? I'm super anxious now that I have cancer, especially as the lumps on my head/neck are getting bigger instead of disappearing. Should I go back to the GP with the new symptoms? Would they be able to bring my appointment forward? Or will I just have to wait?

Has anybody else had these symptoms? I am more worried because my daughter is just 6 years old and now I am scared I am going to leave her without a mum.

Thank you for reading and sorry for the long post!

  • If your new symptoms are causing you any problem at all then yes go back to the GP. You don’t have to wait.
If you are going back to try and rush your appointment I would think it’s highly unlikely you are going to get anything much faster. I know the feeling, it’s torture and you just want to see someone but the 9th may is a very quick appointment in the scale of hospital appointments.
I don’t have your symptoms, however I will say one time I got an urgent ENT 2 week referral for a lump in my neck, and it was nothing. Nodes. It’s still there actually. Never changed and it’s been years!
try and stay off google while the time is passing. Good luck x
