Suspected Endometrial Cancer - what happens at your first 2ww appointment?

I’ve been having various troubles with my periods and bladder over the last 6 months - long story short after various tests I had an internal ultrasound and my uterine lining was 19mm thick (on day 6 of my period), plus they found a cyst in my lining in addition to the thickness.

I've been referred on a suspected endometrial cancer 2ww pathway - I have my first appointment with the consultant next week where they have said I will have another ultrasound scan and possibly more tests…… do they usually do the biopsy/camera on the same day? Or call you back at another time for this?
Just trying to prepare myself with what may happen on the day

  • Hello Tory2

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns recently and that following an ultrasound, you're now due to see the specialist next week. It's understandable that you have questions.

It's difficult to say with certainty what will happen during the appointment. It's possible that the doctor will ask to do an examination, and depending on what they see, the results of the ultrasound and the way in which your local clinic runs, they may ask to do a biopsy at your initial appointment. Or it may be that they decide to arrange for further tests to be done on another day.

I know it's unhelpful to not know what will happen when you see the specialist, but it really can vary from patient to patient as well as from hospital to hospital. Perhaps go prepared for further testing and a biopsy, but if they make another appointment,t then you will at least have had the chance to ask questions about the procedures.

Hopefully the specialists will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
