Positive fit test anemic and low hemoglobin

Was referred on the 2ww after abnormal bloods and a positive fit test had my first appointment on Friday and when he examined me he said he could feel a lump on the left side and was also tender when he pressed there I'm now booked in for a colonoscopy and endoscopy on the 29th had to wait that long due to me having a stroke last year and need to stop taking my medication for so long. I'm actually petrified I was prepared for the colonoscopy but now they have said they will be doing both my mind is running wild as I really didn't want the endoscopy. Also got to have a CT scan but not got the appointment for that yet.

  • Hi Annie and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your results and what happened to you last year. That must have been an incredibly difficult and challenging time.

I'm also sorry for the additional stress and worry your upcoming endoscopy, in addition to your colonoscopy, is causing.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience of having both of these procedures will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice, but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to support you and put your mind at ease.

I know the next two weeks will be tough, but we are here for you Annie and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi Annie I had a recent Endoscopy I was so worried very anxious before procedure not knowing what to expect

I have an underlying chronic respiratory condition a non smoker but my lung function is poor so I think that made me bit more worried about asking for sedation as I thought procedure would be painful

I got the Endoscopy with sedation and I don’t really remember much apart from the horrible taste from the numbing throat spray

no pain felt quick procedure even though sedation could still hear instructions when asked to breathe normally and try to relax

I am waiting on date for colonoscopy due to abnormal symptoms and positive fit test have heard different perspectives from others with regards to prep being worse than procedure

I wish you all the best with your tests and hope you get good results if you need to chat I will be on the chat forum to offer my support

  • Thank you so much for sharing your experience I'm going to ask for sedation as I'm having both done on the day. I just want it to hurry up and be over with but the days are dragging.

I know a few people who have had colonoscopy and they say the prep is the worst bit. I think regardless of what you hear from others your still bound to be nervous it's natural.

Hi, I just wanted to hopefully share some different views on the prep. I’ve had the prep this week for colonoscopy and it honestly wasn’t bad. Nowhere near as bad as I’d been thinking and honestly, please don’t worry x

  • I just wanted to reassure you, as someone who recently had an endoscopy - I would rather do it again than get a scale and polish from the dentist. It really was no bother, I gagged less. Haha. It’s over in such a short time and the numbing spray and sedation means you don’t feel a thing. I was really so anxious but would never be nervous to have it done again.
good luck for your results. Seems like they are doing lots of tests and nice and quick which is what we want!

  •   thank you for your response yeah they have been very quick I had my CT with contrast so by time I have my cameras they will have those results too I just can't function at minute but I'm staying off Google and just reading others experiences on here and also another site it's just the waiting and trying to be normal Infront of the kids
