Unusual Lymph Node on back

I had a lump on my back that was hard and didn’t move so was referred to Dermatology in Nov 2024, used private health insurance to see dermatologist but no availability until February. February 2025 saw a Dermatologist who wasn’t keen to remove so referred to Plastic surgeon 2 weeks later. Plastic surgeon referred for ultrasound as was unsure as to what was. Ultrasound following week. Went back to plastic surgeon week later to be told it was an Enlarged Lymph node and as was unusual he would like me to see the haematologist. Saw haematologist 2 weeks later who ordered bloods. Got call from haematologist to say bloods clear, referred back to plastic surgeon for decision whither to remove whole node or have a needle biopsy. It was decided to remove.
My lymph node was removed under local anaesthetic last Thursday. The plastic surgeon commented that he has removed many but none link mine. Firstly it was in a very strange place and secondly it was a strange presentation when removed.
With this private healthcare provider I am told it is 4 weeks for results from pathology which seems long, especially for a private clinic?
I am now having to wait for my next appointment with the consultant a month after biopsy - beginning of May! It’s not easy trying not to  think about it. It’s been a long process to get to biopsy even under private healthcare, I know it would probably be longer using the NHS so am lucky in that sense.
I am trying to push the fact if they were concerned it would not take as long. Anyone any words of wisdom? Have a strange presentation in placement and biopsy?

  • Hi EMFH,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear that they have been thorough with their checks with this and that you hopefully don't have too much longer to wait to hear more.

I can understand that four weeks feels like quite a wait, but as you say it sounds like you have been able to fast track this somewhat, and the wait for appointments and results can often be much longer.

Unfortunately it's not possible to read anything into the waiting times, but I hope you're able to find out more soon, and do use your results appointment to ask any questions you may have.

In the meantime if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully you'll get more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
