Pre- Diagnosis

Having solely  nursed  my husband at home  for thirteen years ,who suffered from Ependymomas brain tumours situated around his brain stem, diagnosed in 2011. (These tumours caused his death last year.) I then  travelled to care for one sister diagnosed 2023 with breast cancer and another sister diagnosed with multiple cancers. They are both struggling from the effected of these situations. I developed a difficulty on swallowing my food last Autumn. Finally took time out to have this investigated. Camera up nose and down throat last week, being sent for barium meal and xray  next wk.Sent off poo specimen and received call from g.p. stating I have a tumour and will have camera in bum whenever they can fit me in.I am assuming this infers I have both bowel and stomach tumours/problems. Any relevant info would be much appreciated.

  • Hello VirginiaG,

Welcome to Cancer Chat and I'm sorry to hear how cancer is affecting your family over the years.

It's difficult to advise on this, as you still have some tests that will investigate further, but don't be afraid to ask questions or raise any concerns with your doctor in your appointments. It's important that you feel informed and understood at appointments and open conversation can help towards this. In the meantime, you can read about the colonoscopy test and any other tests on our website, which I hope will help you feel more prepared.

    Best wishes to you,

  • Than you for your reply, as you say I have to get through the barium meal scan and the colonoscopy. Information is always helpful
