Hi sorry for the long post!
My son who is 20 has 5 enlarged lymph nodes around his neck, 2 on each side and 1 at the back. The 1st appeared christmas and the rest soon followed they continued to get bigger, at 1st I thought maybe he was coming down with something, run down ect as he works very long hours 55-66hrs a week. We visited the doctor who ran bloods his white blood count and lymphocyte count came back quite high, he showed no symptoms of any other infection but has lost 10% of his body weight since Christmas and still loosing!
So the doc ran more bloods check for certain infections- all clear. Next step was urgent referral for ultrasound and biopsy, ENT and full body CT scan. He had the ultrasound they took 3 biopsies from the 1 lymph node at the back of his neck. CT showed the lumps in his neck and rest of body is clear. He then went on to have a MRI of the neck up which also just showed the lumps in his neck (these range in sizes from 1-4cm diameter)
Fast forward we had a 2nd appointment with ENT who said Non hodgkins lymphoma had been ruled out which we were relieved but it was being sent for further pathological lymphoma testing. In the mean time he has lost further weight and developed a cough which he has now had for over 2 weeks and can't shift, he's refusing to go to the doctors as in his words he thinks they will put the enlarged nodes down to that!
Yesterday we relieved a letter saying the biopsy showed no evidence of lymphoma and the node that the biopsy was taken from is reactive. We don't see ENT now until the 2nd of May
My question is he has 5 enlarged lymph nodes largest being 4cm in length, around his neck with no sign of infection or prior infections he's always been quite robust so to say, he is still loosing weight even though his diet hasn't changed and these lumps are hard don't move and have got bigger they dont cause him any pain either. I'm just not convinced that by taking a biopsy from 1 of them can clear all 5 please can someone give me peace of mind
Many thanks a concerned mum
