Worried One tonsil growing left to right

Titled worried I’m actually pretty petrified having a young family, I’m 50, had sore throats for a few months thought nothing of it, in December start to notice a felling of a hair stuck in my throat which went on in early march to feeling like a peanut stuck… Now I’ve clearly one tonsil growing across from the left the other is fine, I got told by the ENT doing the camera that it wasn’t right & im referred for an MRI, not sure how long one of those takes to get, do I go private? Can I get my tonsils out privately or am I’m jumping the gun panicking? I’ve unfortunately read google & can’t see much else but cancer & the % .. so I’m pretty much sick with anxiety, didn’t feel well anyway now made that worse… Ermm not sure what else to say I honestly don’t know what to think & im being annoying to people around me I feel… Wish the ENT just referred me without saying anything

  • Welcome to the forum Sparkydog although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

If you've been referred for an MRI, it should be through the NHS. Waiting times for scans can vary depending on what part of the country you're in and if any backlogs are still being worked through but fingers crossed you won't have to wait too long for an appointment to come through.

Hopefully some of our members who have been through this process will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice but if it would help to talk things through with someone, you can give our team of cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and address any other questions and/or concerns you may have at this time.

I know this must be a very stressful and worrying time, but we are here for you Sparkydog and we're wishing you all the best with your MRI.

    Kind regards,
