Would you be contacted earlier than 4 weeks if CT shows tumour?

Hi,

Dad (62M) had a 3 month follow up CT scan on 14th Feb (4 weeks ago). This was after unresolving atelectasis after severe pneumonia back in September 2024.

In December, doctors did bronchoscopy and did brushings/washings which showed no cancer cells but didn’t know why the atelectasis hadn’t resolved. They wanted him to have another CT in February, which he had.

If that scan had showed a tumour, would they have been in touch prior to his respiratory consultant appointment this week? It will have been 4 weeks since the scan and I just didn’t know if they’d leave it or not.

thank you!

  • Hi Sb1706,

Unfortunately I can't answer this question but hopefully some of our members who have found themselves in a similar position will share their experiences and advice with you soon.

I'm not sure from your post what day this week your dad will be seeing the respiratory consultant, but I hope the appointment goes well and you get some much needed answers and peace of mind.

If either of you have any questions or concerns you'd like to discuss with one of our cancer nurses after you have spoken with them, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

We're sending you both all our support and hope the results of your dad's CT scan brings good news.

    Kind regards,
