Worried - Groin & Armpit Pain

Hi All, appreciate it's a cancer forum but I would be grateful if you could render me your support. I began a relationship with a former female colleague and we got intimate on 25/01. Intercourse was protected but I performed oral sex. We got intimate again on 29/01 and whilst doing so, I started feeling pain in my left groin which I assumed to be a muscle strain.

A few days later, I started to feel the pain in my right groin. Thereafter I started having an itching / painful sensation in my armpits. I was travelling for a while with no access to a doctor but last week I saw the doctor and she ordered urine, chlamydia, gonorrhoea and blood tests for me. Results for the first 3 came out ok today. I only had bloods taken today and was seen by the doctor afterwards. She examined my my lymph nodes and notef my right armpit was swollen. I usually have throbbing pains in the groin for a few hours coupled with the armpits, mainly the right.

The doctor scared me when she mentioned that once she sees the results, she may also need to take things further and do an HIV test. As you can imagine, I'm really troubled and can hardly focus on my work let alone imagine what this would do to my children.

I spoke with my former colleague and she told me that she last did her medical tests in November 2024 and everything was fine on her side. Of course I haven't seen the results but at this point in time, I'm at the lowest I've ever been.

Anyone here has had such pain for a long time i.e. 6 weeks? Any help or advise anyone can give?

Many thanks

  • Hi Stevess and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about your symptoms and for the worry they are causing, but it's reassuring to hear that the first three test results were all clear, and fingers crossed your bloods will be the same.

As we know, waiting for news is tough, but our members are here for you Stevess and hopefully it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer you their support and advice.

I hope this guide we have on how to cope with the wait will be useful but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, do give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help you at this anxious time

We're thinking of you Stevess and hope your pain starts to improve soon.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
