Colonoscopy and gastroscopy next week

Hi I’ve been reading some of the posts on her during the night as I’ve been awake so long again. I’ve had bowel problems and now have a colonoscopy next Tuesday. I was fast tracked by the GP despite a negative FIT test and blood tests. I am a really scared about the prep and the results. I cry a lot and don’t seem to be able to remain positive for any length of time. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease last September and still dealing with that. My husband has just been successfully treated for prostate cancer and is now waiting for a pacemaker to be fitted. It’s been a rocky 7/8 months for us both. Dreading the prep on Monday. I had a colonoscopy during 2020 and had 1 polyp removed which I assume was ok as I didn’t hear anything, just hoping this will be ok too. My sister lives with ovarian cancer and is on a chemo tablet every day, her daughter had breast cancer a year ago. Writing this is easing some anxiety. Thank you for reading. I’d be glad of any replies.

  • It sounds as if you have been going through a lot with your own and your husband’s health.  There is certainly a limit to the huge load you are bearing every day.  I’m on a 2WW and hope to be seen in the next week but haven’t got a date yet. Good luck on Tuesday. You can do this.  Deep breath.

  • Hi I've had 2 Colonoscopy's and like you say the prep is terrible to say the least but its the means to an end , its good that you have the opportunity to get everything checked out its far better than not knowing if there's something lurking there ,It will give you peace of mind despite the hassle of having to go through it ,it sounds like your family members have had a very tough trying time so I hope everything goes well for you on Mon/Tues ,mine turned out to be fine ,there's always someone on here to help you through if you have any questions ,so keep in touch .

  • Thank you so much SusieBell it is so helpful to have encouragement. My husband has also had chronic depression and anxiety with several hospital admissions over the last 40 or so years (we soon celebrate 55 years of marriage) so life has been difficult for some time.
I do hope you get a date soon. I am finding waiting so difficult. Taking lots of deep breaths

  • Thank you so much Jenny3109 reading through some posts during my long hours awake I was so impressed with the support people have and give on this forum. I need the peace of mind but not the anxiety while waiting! Your tests being fine encourages me to keep going. I know that isn’t the case for many people here but knowing it is for some gives me hope.

the autoimmune disease I have is Sjögren’s which was triggered into action after having covid and then shingles twice, despite having the vaccination.

Thank you for taking the time to post

  • You're very welcome I also had covid /flu whatever it was and I also had shingles my arm and hand were covered and extremly painful , I didn't have any of the vaccinations ,I sincerely hope everything turns out well for you ,as you probably know its much more likely to be something far less sinister than cancer .
