Abnormal Bleeding

Hi, looking for some advice and to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar.

Two weeks ago I started bleeding from my vagina every time I had a bowel movement. The blood was definitely coming from the vagina and not the rear. It’s definitely not my period as it’s not due yet and was only happening with the bowel movements. The week before that I was quite constipated and had been straining a lot when going to the toilet so thought it might be some sort of injury from that.

I’ve also had a cervical erosion/ectropion for about 20 years and I always bleed slightly after sex or after a smear test. So I started to wonder if it was this playing up. I saw my GP and they referred me to Gynaecology. I was told I will wait up to 40 weeks for an appointment. The bleeding keeps getting heavier and is now constant and is coming out quick thick at times, sort of like a clot.. I am so worried as I also now have period type cramps but it’s definitely not my period. Also, about 15 years ago I had some abnormal cells removed from my cervix after a smear showed I had CIN2. My last smear was in 2023 and it was normal. I am sick with worry. I also have lower back pain. I have googled it and have diagnosed myself with all sorts. I can’t see much that links the bleeding with the bowel movements. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Hello Fqgpzm3, and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm very sorry to hear about your symptoms and that you could be waiting up to 40 weeks for an appointment with gynaecology.

As your symptoms have got worse, it would be best to let your GP know so they can check you over. They may even be able to change your referral to an urgent one if necessary which may reduce the length of time you have to wait to be seen.

We're sending you all our support Fqgpzm3 and hopefully some of our members will stop by soon to share their stories and advice.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
