Hi everyone,
I have been referred for an urgent ultrasound for cancer screening and I got my appointment in 5 weeks. Is this wait normal? And if not, what can I do to change this?
many thanks

Hello Ana-tula,
As I noticed you’re new to the forum and your post hasn’t had a reply yet, I wanted to stop by to welcome you to Cancer Chat.
I’m sorry to hear that you're feeling anxious about your upcoming ultrasound appointment - waiting can be incredibly difficult.
As far as waiting times go, it may be helpful to contact your GP to discuss your concerns. They might be able to advise you on whether your appointment timeframe aligns with local guidelines or if anything can be done to expedite it.
You might also consider giving the hospital a call to see if they have a cancellation list you could join, which may result in an earlier appointment.
If you’d find it helpful to talk things through, our team of nurses is available to chat on freephone 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Wishing you all the best, and please do let us know how you get on,
Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
I totally hear you! Waiting times even when it’s urgent are not great! I’ve been waiting 10 weeks (my CT is on Wednesday) since they picked up a growth on my kidney via a routine ultrasound. So 5 weeks is probably quite quick depending on where you live. Sending lots of positive energy your way as the waiting is one of the worst parts!
