Ultrasound and colposcopy

Hi all

My partner has had an urgent referral for the above has anyone any experience in having those scans done privately and then if any treatment needed getting that done on the NHS? Or does it just confuse the system as such?

Both parents have had cancer.

Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Darenc,
I’m sorry to hear about the situation your partner is facing. It must be a stressful time, especially with the added worry of the uncertainty that comes with cancer referrals.
Regarding your question, it's understandable to wonder if having scans done privately could impact the treatment process with the NHS. Generally, private scans do not confuse the system, but it’s important to ensure that the results are shared with your partner’s NHS consultant so they have the full picture. It might be a good idea to speak with the NHS team to make sure they’re aware of any private tests or scans done, so they can guide you through the next steps.
Many people here have gone through similar experiences, and I hope others will be able to share their insights and what worked for them.
If you have any further questions or need more support, our team of nurses is available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
With best wishes to you and your partner,

    1. Thanks for your reply, from what I have come across it seems best to just wait as getting the first scan needed a pelvic ultrasound they possibly won't look at the results until your scheduled time.
    2. Seems you have to chase things up especially at the start.
