Colonoscopy results after 12 weeks

As promised an update on my colonoscopy which was done 17th Dec.. the medical secretary to my Colorectal and has been incredible,  caring and supportive.  She suggested I phone her every few weeks to check if my results were ready to be seen by the consultant.  They were completed early February.. the long process of results being seen, letter dictated, typed and returned to be signed then back to secretary for posting...I spoke with the secretary last week and she explained due to the sheer number of cases waiting to be processed it might be several weeks before my notes were seen... I shared with her the 'information ' given to me via a telephone call from my G.P practice in November.  He was following up my visit with the Asthma Nurse I had attended a few days earlier.  This G.P is unknown to me and never met me...the conversation was [ roughly]  your pain, continuous cough, breathlessness isn't related to your (uncontrolled) Asthma but due to bowel cancer...you can imagine my shock and the reaction of the secretary.. my original appt for the colonoscopy was 6th June which had to be cancelled.. during this phone call he arranged another qFIT test and a colonoscopy was booked for 17th Dec..

During the phone call last week the secretary said she would ensure my results were seen by the consultant immediately and I would be given an appt for a phone consultation.. which she did and I received the letter this morning with the appt for next Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Accepting a telephone consultation reduced any further waiting time....bypassing the above process and enabling me to get my results much earlier.

Apologies for the long post but I thought it would be helpful to explain the backstory of the past few months..

  • Thank you for sharing such a detailed update with us, Eastendgirl.
It sounds like you've been through quite an emotional and challenging time over the past few months, and it’s great to hear that the medical secretary has been so caring and supportive throughout the process. The waiting times and the uncertainty can be incredibly difficult, but it’s wonderful that you’ve managed to secure a phone consultation much sooner than expected.
I can imagine how unsettling that initial call from your GP must have been, and I’m glad that things are moving forward now, even if the process has been slow at times
Once you’ve had your consultation next week, please feel free to return and share an update if you feel comfortable.
Wishing you all the best as you move forward with your next steps,

  • Sincere thanks for your reply Renata,  I'm feeling a little shell shocked today. Seen by my G.P yesterday regarding a lump under my arm [ not armpit]  it had been there a couple of weeks before I made the appt. GP carried examination,  sent me for bloods, dictated a referral to Orthopaedic consultant and requested an Ultrasound...trying not to overthink her reaction...
