4 weeks for appointment classed as urgent?

Hi all,

just wondering whether 4 weeks for an ENT appointment would be classed as urgent?

my son had a dermatology appointment 2 weeks ago to have what we was too was a cyst removed. At the appointment the dermatologist said it wasn’t a cyst and she couldn’t say what it was but she has referred us to ENT and the referral letter states enlarged firm but mobile lymph node that is growing. She said the appointment could take a while but we have received one for 2 weeks time which is just over 4 weeks since referral. I am now worried about it

  • As far as I understand it, cancer or suspected cancer pathways are within 2 weeks. There is a difference between a cancer pathway and an urgent pathway.
you can view your areas hospitals expected waiting times if you give it a google.
I had a large swollen lymph node in my neck and the ENT specialist told me then that if it’s mobile that’s a good sign. They worry more if it’s firm and cannot be moved.
hopefully nothing to worry about but also great they are getting your son in soon. Sounds like good care which is nice.

  • Thank you, i didn’t know that urgent was different to cancer pathway. Hopefully just them being cautious after the 10 month wait already.
