Im 22, female, have no family history of tonsil cancer but have family history of recurrent tonsillitis— my aunt had her tonsils removed when she was younger because of it. im not a smoker or drinker either.
Ive had one large tonsil for a while, I noticed it a few months ago when I was sick but didnt think much of it as I usually get viral tonsillitis and one sided throat pain but it goes away. in December and january i was sick so much, I was ill every other day with something and I dont think I ever fully recovered. Anyway my tonsil was still swollen but again I didnt think of it too much until i looked on google and started crying. I got an appointment with my GP and she noticed one sided of my neck was swollen and booked me in for bloods. just like OP it came back that Im low on iron and they gave me supplements. she also urgently referred me to the ENT and on the 4th of feb i had my appointment. he noticed my tonsil and put the camera up my nose and down my throat. he said one sided was more prominent and i went in for an ultrasound.
the ultrasound showed my thyroid was a little inflammed but no nodules that they needed to biopsy. he offered me the option to get surgery which i initially turned down because i was terrified. he said he’ll call me back in three months (idk abt that cus its the NHS and i have recieved anything yet and its been almost a month). i have chronic sore throat and pressure on my ear and now under my jaw too. im so scared i might go back to the GP. i forgot to add that two weeks ago I got tonsillitis and got given antibiotics. the white patches are gone but all the pain is still there. reading this thread has brought me a bit of comfort but im still petrified. i know it could he anything but cancer, but i have major health anxiety. Im terrified to have surgery but I know this is probanly going to be a possibility.
