Microcalcification and abnormal breast tissue

I was referred to 2ww breast clinic with a minor symptom. I expected to be seen and dismissed quite quickly and I really wasn't worried.

I had mammogram yesterday, followed by ultrasound. They said there's no tumour or mass but an area of abnormal tissue and some microcalcifications. They took some biopsies and I get the results next week. The doctor said at the time that it didn't appear to have sinister features, so to start with I still wasn't too worried.

But now I'm feeling quite down and sad about it. It's going to be a very long week.

I've been looking things up and it seems likely that if there is any cancer it would be very early stages. So on the one hand, it feels like no big deal either way, on the other it feels quite worrying.

I hate the not knowing.

  • Hi Overture and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

It's great to hear no tumours or masses showed up, although I'm sorry for the worry the abnormal tissue and microcalcifications findings are causing.

Waiting for results is always tough but our community are here for you Overture22 and hopefully some of our members who have been in this position will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

I hope this guide we have on how to cope with waiting for news will help to steady your nerves but if it would help to talk things through with someone, then do give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and ease your mind whilst you wait.

We're sending you all our support Overture22 and wishing you all the best for next week. We'll have our fingers crossed the good news continues.

    Kind regards,
