Really scared - had breakthrough bleeding. Ultrasound booked for tomorrow and colposcopy going to be arranged. Has anyone else had this?

Hi

I'm 49 and started the mini pill 7 years ago, my periods stopped, but I had menopause symptoms, so 3 years ago I was given hrt. I've been fine on hrt which is evorel 75 and a progesterone pill in the evening. 10 days ago I started bleeding, I also had the symptoms of periods ie pelvic pain, sore boobs, erupted skin.               Anyway I contacted the doctor who referred me for a 2 week pathway,  I received a call last week and I go tomorrow for an ultrasound and then they are going to arrange another appointment where I got in for a colposcopy. I'm petrified, I had 4 days of heavy bleeding, then since spotting brown, then bright red to brown again etc. Today, I had burning dragging feeling in pelvis, sore legs and brown spotting and now tonight, it seems to.be a full blown period again, with red bleeding, cramps and sore boobs and legs. I'm so fed up.with it and my anxiety is 10 fold, has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks.

  • Hello Star12309,

I'm sorry to hear how you're feeling.

When you're worried about cancer, it's difficult not to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. It may not be easy, but while you wait for your appointments it's important to try not to worry. I hope the ultrasound went ok yesterday and if you'd like to read more about the colposcopy test, you can on your website.

I hope this will help you feel more prepared,

  • Hi

many thanks for your reply. My first appointment was 2 ultrasounds, one pelvic and one vaginal. The doctor who did it was very nice, see told me that she couldn’t see any signs of masses, but my uterus has a huge blood clot that is sitting there and the rest of my uterus has blood in it. She said I would need shystoscopy to see further. I go tomorrow to see a specialist and will have the hystoscopy booked then as im having a general. I am still bleeding and clots coming out, but she did say it was to be expected. It’s now been 12 days. I’m worried, but I’m trying to keep positive.
