Waiting for biopsy appointment

Hi, my 12 year old daughter has had swollen lymph nodes in her neck since 2022, she had X-rays and a ultrasound the X-ray was clear but the ultrasound shown a mass of lumps, It was left at that.
fast forward to the lump had grown a lot and I could feel see it sticking out, so had another ultrasound and got the call to go to gp to discuss the results, all I was told is it’s positive, but didn’t explain what for, and also cuts grown from 0.5 to 1.6, and said I’m made a urgent referral to ENT for a biopsy, the referral had been made but not urgent so it could be a 49 weeks wait, I’m so worried and can’t get answers from anywhere, iv been calling gps and the hospital for past 3 weeks and just getting fobbed off to point I can’t get a gp appointment to discuss the results more. Any advice on what I could do next, as im worrying constantly, thank you

  • Welcome to the forum Hayley although I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. This must be a very worrying and stressful time, especially when the wait for your daughter's referral could be quite some time.

  • Hi,

I am in a similar situation. My son (13) found a lump in his nelk last year. We went and had an ultrasound and was called by the GP to say it was a sebaceous cyst and that they would refer us to dermatology to discuss having it removed. 10 months later we get to the appointment to be told that it’s not a cyst. She didn’t know what it was but it had grown from 7.7mm to 1.5cm. She then referred us to ENT. The referral letter says “differential diagnosis lymph node, from but mobile and growing”. This was 2 weeks ago and we now have an ENT appointment in 2 weeks time.
49 weeks seems like a long wait for an urgent referral. As far as I’m aware our referral wasn’t urgent. Maybe speak to the GP to confirm they did the urgent one.
