1 year post menopausal bleeding on blood thinners

Hi I am 62 and have been experiencing post menopausal bleeding intermittently since Feb 24. This co incided with being changed from Warfarin to Rivaroxaban initially started after clot in leg Nov 23.

I had a negative biopsy result after a hysteroscopy in Feb 24. I was advised would be recalled to check for polyps. I chased this up when the bleeding became heavier around Sept 24 and had another hysteroscopy and biopsy in Nov 24. This showed simple hyperplasia in wall of uterus plus polyps. The mirena coil was recommended to me to release hormones directly into wall or progesterone meds. I turned the coil down after a very bad experience previously when using for contraception.

I had polyps removed a couple weeks ago but the bleeding is continuing made more unpredictable by the blood thinner. Awaiting another biopsy result and really hoping for some advice from GP gynae or cardio ( I have a fib too) re whether ok to reduce blood thinner doseage. Anyone else had similar experiences. The bleeding is just so unpredictable!! Quite a mind blowing journey esp as I havent had any periods for about 25 years!!

  • Hi Diva,

I am so sorry to hear that the bleeding is continuing and has become more unpredictable since you have been on blood thinners. I hope that you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy result and it's a good idea to seek advice from your GP or from a specialist and that they can tell you more as to whether you can reduce blood thinner dosage.  All this must be a bit stressful for you and I hope that you get some answers soon and that they can sort out this bleeding.

I hope that you will hear from the experiences of others on the forum who have had similar experiences. Waiting for biopsy results is never easy and you might find it helpful to read our tips to help you cope while waiting for important news. I hope that this bleeding resolves quickly.

    Best wishes,
