Waiting for prognosis

Hi,

I discovered a 3cm lump in my left breast 3 weeks ago which was followed up yesterday with a scan and 3 biopsies. I have  been told that it is definitely cancer but now have to wait 9 days for a prognosis. I am 70 years old and had a clear mammogram last May and a breast examination a couple of months later and no abnormalities were found.

My husband and I are struggling to come to terms with my diagnosis and are thinking the worst. Not sure how to navigate this and would welcome some reassurance.

Thank you

  • Hello Sue6652,

I'm sorry to hear that you and your husband are struggling at the moment and can understand that this is difficult news to hear. When you're left to wait for a prognosis, it can be natural to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. To combat these thoughts, we have some advise on our website around coping with waiting for news, which could be useful to you both. I do hope your next appointment goes ok.

    All the best,
